OUR HISTORY

A brief history of family behind Marco Office Supply, Furniture & Printing Inc. Generations of the Penzo family have worked in the office supply industry. This is their story.

1909

Origins

Joseph Penzo, originally from Venice, Italy, moves to the city of izmir, Turkey to found a small typewriter repair shop. The business also sold carbon paper, folders, pens and pencils in a local Hon, or bazaar.

1934

The Next Generation

On the death of his father, son Eugene Penzo take over the family business. The advent of World War II causes severe shortages of typewriters and spare parts. The company shifts from the importation of typewriters  to creating spare parts by hand and serving existing machines.

1950's

WW II Aftermath

Grandson of the founder, Joseph Penzo joins the business and travels around Turkey repairing typewriters and calculators for large concerns such as American Tobacco and large Fig exporters. Eventually, he lands a contract to fix Ditto and mimeograph machines for the NATO bases around Izmir.

1958

Coming to America

After marriage to the daughter of an American colonel, Joseph decides to move to the United States and settles in Maryland. There, he briefly works for a local office supply company and then, eventually, established his own office supply venture.

1960's

Growing Business

Branch Office Supply, located first in Marlow Heights and then Landover, Maryland, expands to 22 employees and over $4 million is sales. The company then buys a location in Washington D.C. that permits them to do business within the city and acquire lucrative government contracts.

1982

The Company is Founded

Marco Office Supply is an independent local family business that has survived in the market for over 40 years is founded in 1982.
